Ramadhan in summer!

Ramadhan kareem to all muslims.

This is going to be my 1st time fasting in summer season.. (~315am till ~915pm) such a long day! InshaAllah I can go through it.. people in other parts of the world are suffering and trying to survive on a daily basis.. lack of food and clean water, while I am here in the UK, have enough (abundent I guess) of food and drinks and clean environment! So, I should not complain or feel it as a burden..but it is going to teach me more and appreciate what I have had now, inshaAllah.

Anyway.. let’s keep on improving our soul, mind and body..spiritually..physically.. and everything that we do.

Please forgive me for all my wrong doing, Ramadhan kareem.

Salam, Peace be upon you

Overwhelming in Prague

Salam and Hello all,

It has been a while.. I know..

I think I am a nomad in London, stayed at 3 different places within this pass 8 months.. and perhaps will move again.. soon..when I start my data collection for my study later.. where? let see where it is going to be.. hehh

Just got back from Prague, Czech Rep. Attended a Clinical Nutrition Summer School, by ESPGHAN. The faculty members were so cool, knowledgable and inspiring! I am overwhelemed with the knowledge that Ive got from the school. Thinking of start writing essays for my favourites lectures – Early life programming, Breastfeeding, Complementary feeding. Seriously.. I am amazed on how the speakers (one of them is my supervisor!), combine all scientific evidence and put together as an amazing story.. truly inspiring! Too many input..non-stop for 5 days! Overwhelmed! I am glad I learnt a lot!

Stayed at the oldest monastery (Brenov monastery) for 5 days, it was just beside an oldest church in Europes. Visit many other old church/monestaries in Prague with my friends, we also went to Jews town in Prague – visited Jews museum, old cemetery and synagogues  One of it is the oldest synogogue in Europe .. and some people were staring at me I guess.. maybe hardly for them to see a muslim girl visit those places.. well. I come to learn and gain experience while I was already in Prague. It was great that I went there with my Jews friend and she was able to tell us more story and history of ancient Jewish history.

Anyway, this is going to be one of an interesting story of my life for my future children and grandchildren as well. A journey and an amazing experience in Prague. I think I have to do more homework to learn about history. It is going to be interesting..

Friends around the world (we are from mexico, malaysia, italy, spain and argentina)

Friends around the world (we are from mexico, malaysia, italy, spain and argentina)

Till then.. more photos will be posted soon.. I guess so.. hehe (malas gak sbenarnya).

-peace be upon you, salam-

Follow your passion?

Dear All,

Today is Sunday and I don’t want to think much about my study, sometimes I need to take my mind off research. So, let’s talk about passion.. Many people say that we should follow our passion, do what we love and the money will follow.. Well.. some people think that is a bad advice.. I didn’t say that.. but Cal Newport (a computer scientist, avid researcher, prolific reader, author) mentioned that in his book entitled So Good They Can’t Ignore You: Why Skills Trump Passion in the Quest for Work You Love. I have not read this book yet, but my husband and brother-in-law read it, and enjoy his writing.. they really like all his books. These are some opinion of Cal Newport, read his book to discover more about his thoughts/idea/opinion 🙂

  • Most people who end up living passionate lives, didn’t start by following their passions; instead, they focussed first on developing rare and valuable skills to a very high level.
  • While they ended up living unconventional lives, many of them often followed conventional paths, like college and grad school, followed by a career.
  • “The path to a passionate life is often way more complex than the simple advice ‘follow your passion’ would suggest.”
  • Passion comes after you put in the hard work to become excellent at something valuable, not before. In other words, what you do for a living is much less important than how you do it… So.. what is your opinion??

Slide1

I read his previous book on study skills (recommended by my husband and his brother, Amchik); ‘How To Become a Straight-A Student: The Unconventional Strategies Real College Students Use to Score High While Studying Less’. This book is really good for university students, so to those who are studying, go and grab one! There are lots of brilliant ideas, tips, advice and many other inspiring words from him.. so what you need to do is to apply and practice it! I am sure it will help you a lot in your study! I guarantee it can lead you to be a top university student, not only in academic, but you will also enjoy your university social life and perhaps become a leader in a society/clubs/etc or involve in many campus activities.. in a nut shell.. you will be doing great and have an amazing university life! What you need is a positive thinking and attitude! My advise is, be proactive, and enjoy your university life, you will have an amazing journey of 3-4 years of your study life, without realizing it! Enjoy it as much as you can..’enjoy’ here means, do your best in your study and yet get involve in many campus activities which are very exciting and fun! I did it and I really had fun during my undergraduate study in UMS, Sabah and my postgrad study in Massey Univ, NZ. And now here I am.. doing research in UCL, and enjoy my study here and love the research environment in my institute, Institute of Child Health, UCL. Alhamdulillah. Well.. it will be a long journey for me. What I really need now is ‘persistent and perseverance’, that is the most powerful tools for PhD student.

Alright, enough about academic.. he he he… my friend, Faiz posted an entry about ‘your dream job’ 2 years ago : If money didn’t matter.. what jobs would you consider pursuing?

I would like to add more; if location/family/whatever_that_you_think_you_need_to_consider did not matter as well.. so what would you love to do/be? Here is my so-called ‘dream jobs’ hihihi..

1st) I would love to be a diver, a master scuba diver! I wish I can dive in all beautiful dive sites around the world! I should study marine biologist! It is not too late, am I? So that I can become a diver and also a scientist/researcher!

Well.. did you expect that? those ‘dream jobs’ of mine? hehehe.. So.. what is yours??

Ok folks, thanks for visiting my blog! Do your very best in everything you do!

Live to win, dare to fail. Squeeze your day, carpe diem baby!

A new journey

I came here to learn and gain knowledge, inshaAllah. My supervisor said..  work extremely hard for a couple of months.. and reward yourself after you achieve your goal. You can then enjoy as much as you want without feeling guilty.  Yeahh.. this is healthy indeed. Here I am in London..  studying at UCL, surrounding by expertise around the world. I have to use this opportunity wisely..try to get as much as i can from them; knowledge, experience, guide, advice, skills, etc. I come here purely to learn and gain experience, seriously, unlike when i was  in nz…. i was looking forward to traveling as well..hehe.. this time is totally different. So.. perhaps after this..they wont be so much post about travelling in the uk, or europe… but maybe more about my pass experiences traveling in Nz. Well.. I cant deny that I like nz more.. but it is okay.. i came here to learn, so I don’t expect much from London..except from my university. I am very glad to have a great supervisors here in ucl. Both of my supervisors are very helpful, supportive, smart, brilliant, and lovely! Hahah sound too good right..yah alhamdulillah.. im so glad. What i need now is just to work hard and persistent! And keep writing? Nerdy entry..right…hehehe…

To my other half, abamm sayang; to my family; to my lovely friends.. Thank you so much for your never ending support and love!

Here are some photos of london! Such a beautiful and lively city! (random photos from my phone)

Roundup 2011

Assalamualaikum, may peace be upon y’ all,

It’s already February 2012! How time flies so fast, I don’t even realize that January ended few days ago. And I had skip a year in writing this blog.. pheww sorry folks.

Let’s roundup the whole year that i skipped, 2011, and I name it as

A year of new beginnings‘ 🙂

January 2011 : I’ve got married in December 2010 but the wedding reception was held in January 2011, combined with my sister’s big day (She got married a day before the wedding reception, so we did it together); more blessed I guess, inshaAllah. Alhamdulillah, it has been more than one year of my marriage now, and I am very happy and blessed to share my life with my beloved husband. Everyday is special for me, we can’t stop loving each other and the love is growing day by day, year by year, inshaAllah. Faiz, now I understand why you keep on saying ‘kawin tu best dan membahagiakan‘. My husband and I are best friend since we were in college, and now he is my soulmate, and of course, he is my bestfriend forever!

Again, million thanks to family and friends (you know who you are) that lend their hand in making the wedding ceremony lively and memorable. Thank you four your wishes, pray, du’a, gifts, and those who sponsored here and there.. I am so thankful and glad to have you all by my side, alhamdulillah.

April 2011 : Submitted my master thesis, and officially graduated in November. Alhamdulillah, I am sooo glad and relief! Pheww at last I made it, after had overcome many obstacles and challenges. My master thesis has been published online my Massey Univ Library. Special thanks to my husband who helped me with writing, and always give full and strong support and being my backbone all the time, Thanks shayamm! Not to forget, all friends and family as well as all participants that help me a lot in completing my research. Dont worry, your name is in the thesis (the acknowledgment part), click the photo below to see your name. The utmost important, I am most grateful to be supervised by my supervisor, Louise and Jane, the co-sv. Million thank you for your help and support.

p/s: I am no longer in NZ now, finished my master and now miss NZ so much!!

And not to forget… very happy for a new addition to my family, a new member to Ariff Kor’s family.. My sis, Angah, safely delivered a cute baby girl (21 April 2011), named Safiyya Marisse! Mak Long love u so much!

Along the year: I able to attend many training courses and conferences around Malaysia, including Sarawak, and also one in Bangkok. I presented several posters in several conferences; maybe next time I should try oral presentation (when I think I am ready lah hehehe).

July 2011 : Went to a beutiful island with husband and did 8 dives. We thought this would be our honeymoon (relaxing holiday) but turn up to be a very adventurous and tiring holiday, yet I’m very satisfied with my diving activities. I won’t call this as a honeymoon trip as we dont feel like one, seriously, this is a very tiring holiday as I did 2-3 dives/day. Anyway, I really enjoyed the road trip and of course really-really-really satisfied with my diving activities. Really looking forward to another diving trip..haha but need to save more money first lah.

October – Novermber 2011 : Busy months! My department organised a national seminar (Maternal and Child Nutrition) and also a national conference (Functional Food Conference). And I was one of the organizing committee and secretariat for both programs. Glad that everything went well, and satisfied with the programs.

Not to forget:  Yayyyy NZ won the 2011 Rugby World Cup!  and another big YAYY to Harimau Malaya Malaysia’s Football team for winning the SEA games 2011. Congratulation! My husband and I watched the games from home, and cheered for both teams like we were in the stadium, haha such a great moment!

December 2011 : I can say that 2011 ended with a happy news : A new addition to my family! Another grandaughter to my dad. My sister delivered a cute baby girl, named Balqis Hanani. Congrats to Cik and Abg Shamsul. So happy for them, praised to Allah, Alhamdulillah.

End of year!! Celebrated our 1st anniversary : participate in a running event for a recycling campaign in Putrajaya. Such a sweet 2011!

Well that basically the sweet 2011 for me. Looking forward to a new adventure of 2012. Hope all of you had a great memorable 2011 and all the best in 2012! Cherish every single moment in your life and with love one!

Dedicate your life to a cause greater than yourself, and your life will become a glorious romance and adventure.” ~Mack Douglas

p/s : at last! I manage to post an entry after a year! and roundup everything! hahahaha

‘it’ is something BIG for me

Assalamualaikum and Hello world,

Some thoughts of mine before ‘it’ happens;

I want it to be very special… for me and for my families (Mine and Along’s), for me, this is the time for us to get close together.

I want it to be simple but very meaningful,

I want it to be exclusive and privilege to those who will be there,

I want it to be bright, cheerful and happy for everyone,

I pray that it will be full of barakah and Allah bless everyone on the day, inshaAllah,

and.. the word ‘it’ is.. my wedding day. I am getting married..very soon. To a very best friend of mine. Alhamdulillah =D

and… I have to remind myself, that what I did or want to do, or what I want to achieve, I must remember, the main intention is for Allah. I wanna be a better person, a better Muslim and hope for the best in the future, and hope ‘we’ are able to build a happy and healthy family, with full of bless from God. Amin.

To all relatives/friends/readers, I will send the wedding invitation card/message/text to you for the reception ceremony, but not that soon, cause it will be held in February 2011, inshaAllah.

THANKS so much to families and friends that have helped me a lot in preparing my special day. And also Thanks for the gifts, wishes, and pray. Thank you!
